SURVEILLANCE TOOLS ALL PRIVATE DETECTIVES SHOULD HAVE

The tools on this list I have used for years and still used today they’ve gotten the job done several times I will get the job done several times more.

The first out of the four is a standard DSLR camera I prefer canon but anyone will do! When giving clients the evidence they hired you for they want the video to be clear as well as the pictures! Some even want them to be printed out! It is up to you if you want to offer that service or not. Just remember the more services the more you can charge.

Number two on the list is a GO PRO, I use the GoPro as a dash cam but you can definitely just buy the dash cam but I already had to go pro so why not put it to use. No sense of buying more equipment when you first get started if you already have it in a drawer at home not being used. I got the GoPro off eBay for about 100 bucks used there’s a whole bunch of them on Amazon brand new for about the same price don’t worry I’ve added the link.

Two number three is a BODY CAM what are you doing private detective work or security I think you should always have a body cam saves you the trouble of trying to prove what happened verbally. I mean the whole point of this blog is to teach you how to protect yourself so that is when will you protect yourself video most of the time you can dispute video if it hasn’t been tampered with.

The fourth and final tool is my favorite I felt real spy like when I got this tool is a BUSHNELL night vision infrared long distance scope fits in your hand you can mount it to the car to firearm that’s actually the actual usage of it but nevertheless you can use it for your surveillance cases it takes pictures and records.

In all reality all these things aren't needed to start doing surveillance but building a tool box with options will allow you to adjust when needed. You can definitely just use your phone or iPad to record. Your quality will be crap but the job will get done.

I have used my phone before and the client was satisfied. Let me tell you why I had to use my phone instead of the four tools I mentioned above.

I was doing surveillance on this guy whose wife found out he was cheating on her. She found a lease with his signature for an apartment across town and the lease also listed another woman's name! I had been following him for a few days with no luck in catching him in the act or with anyone. He did go to the address everyday after work. Even though he told his wife he had to work extra shifts, but still no sign of the young lady. Finally one day as he was heading into the house he gets a call and gets back into his car and starts to drive even further into the city.

I'm following behind him (not to close) he gets to this one way street and finds a parking spot and just my luck it was the only one. I ended up trying to park a few cars behind him and use my canon to catch whatever was about to happen but the angle was bad. Half the street was curb parking and the other half was that stupid diagonal parking. Figuring out there was no way to be incognito and the shot from behind sucked. I had to get creative, Once I saw a female approach his car all bets were off I had to get my money shot!

I threw on a hat that was in my back seat some sun glasses and got out pretending to walk down the street and be on face time loud and obnoxious so they would slightly look my way and I could catch a clear glimpse of both people in the car. It worked I wasn't on facetime I was recording a video of myself with them in the background. I GOT MY MONEY SHOT!

You have to get creative sometimes if you have more than one option that becomes easier. One thing I will say about this business is the more you invest in the business, in yourself, and in your craft the better you’ll get at it, which will attract bigger and better clients. Trust me this business could easily become a 10k a month side hustle or career and I can show you HOW!
